Riding the waves…
Although we are halfway through January, let me still offer a “Happy New Year!” I hope this finds you well.
The “Time’s Narrative” series I launched for the holidays was truly the first successful Series that I have ever painted. Most of my previous works are lovely “one-offs”. I am proud of them and intend to keep them around even if they don’t find a home with a collector. A few times, like “Starlings” for example, I tried to create a second work in the same style and theme, only to fail miserably and set the idea aside to focus on a new idea. Therein lies the problem of having no real cohesive series to speak of.
I decided to join a Facebook group run by a consultant who offered a 10-week course on developing (and marketing) a series of small works. Not only did I learn a good amount about creating a series, but I learned a lot about myself as an artist. Or rather, I learned HOW to put what it is I do as an artist into words. It’s an experience I will never soon forget, and I will be diligently applying and adapting all that I have learned to my future work!
After a delay in getting canvases, I am finally back at it to create a new, as of yet un-named, series adapting the style I had used for “Time’s Narrative”. Where “Time’s Narrative” was all about geological wonders and landscapes, my new series has me exploring the tumbling tides of the ocean.
I hope to complete the series by mid-February. Follow me on Instagram and Facebook to see the development!
